In the past year, we’ve seen faster changes in the macroeconomic business conditions than at any time in the past 30 years. A “new reality” is at hand. Demand for natural resources is increasing, while availability is decreasing. Growth in demand for consumer durables, coupled with infrastructure needs in large, formerly constrained economies, is having an impact on both natural resources and food. The underlying factors that are creating the New Reality are population growth, food supply, climate change, and energy use. These challenges will require innovation in a host of technologies across industries.
